These are the books that I've found helpful. This is by no means a complete list--and in particular, I'm not trying to cover anything beyond the core topics--but it is a solid start. As always, my recommendations tell you as much about my biases. $\begingroup$ @ColorStatistics: I suppose I was taking the question to ask as much for an introduction to distribution theory as for a compendium of brand-name distribution families. The second third had more chemistry and DNA discussions. I found that a little too much. The last part of course were the authors conclusions and the final probability. Overall, the book was interesting even though I lost it during the DNA discussions/5. I had hoped to use Probability Games as a way of introducing my nephew to the subject of probability.
Unfortunately, the book serves better as an example of how careful one must be when writing a book on mathematics. The book contains 26 puzzles/games, most of which invite the reader to compute a probability or number of permutations/5(2).
